Advocates For Animal Rights (AFAR) is a 501c3 Companion Animal Rescue. AFAR has two locations: our first location is In the Beautiful State of Michigan, and our second location is in the Impressive State of Tennessee!

Our primary goal is to raise NO-KILL Companion Animal Sanctuary's at both sites, offering a safe haven to all homeless animals. They will have permanent, safe and loving place to live until a forever home for them is found. However, if a forever home is not readily available, the sanctuary will remain their home away from home until a forever home is found.

The Beginning of AFAR

We began as individuals helping animals who were in need of assistance. These animals were more often than not sick, abandoned, abused, neglected, or in need of re-homing because of urban sprawl.

Whatever their hardship, we took action, simply because they needed our help. Hence, we rescued them and saw to their individual needs. We took them to a place of safety & kept them warm, cared for them, fed them, provided for their medical needs. Sometimes re-homing them or re-releasing them back into the wild. Some became members of our family. We did whatever we could. We were rewarded however, with a great feeling of satisfaction that we helped save their lives. Many times through a look or a purr they gave us Unconditional Love.

In June of 2007, several like minded individuals came together and shared our mutually satisfying experiences, expressed our concerns, and dreamed of a place where we could be of more help. We realized that combining our talents, we could work together to create such an agency. Out of this first meeting, AFAR was formed.

Because of our dedication, determination, and a lot of hard work, AFAR became a tax exempt 501 (C)(3) non-profit agency in 2012. We continue to move forward, together, doing what we do best, rescuing, caring, and helping out when and where we can.
