ABOUT US

Advocates For Animal Rights (AFAR) is a 501c3 Companion Animal Rescue. AFAR has two locations: our first location is In the Beautiful State of Michigan, and our second location is in the Impressive State of Tennessee!

Our primary goal is to raise NO-KILL Companion Animal Sanctuary's at both sites, offering a safe haven to all homeless animals. They will have permanent, safe and loving place to live until a forever home for them is found. However, if a forever home is not readily available, the sanctuary will remain their home away from home until a forever home is found.

Virtually Adopt Baby

Say Hello to Baby! Baby is an adorable Pit-bull approximately 2 years old.  She was rescued with her ‘sister’ Patches. We believe they both escaped from a dog-fighting ring. Wherever she came from, the abuse to Baby was significant & her scars still remain with her both physical and psychological.

Although she is very friendly & loving dog to family, she is terrified of strangers. Additionally, she is not always friendly to other animals, as her increased fear comes out as self-protection aggression.

She so desperately wants to play with the other dogs, but within a few minutes, something comes over her, and then she attacks, and we break up a fight. Its like an automatic pilot. As soon as she realizes what has happened,  she shows definite signs of remorse. The trauma she then displays is so severe that she hides, sometimes for hours, even fearing her handlers. She shakes, her head is down, and she backs into a corner. It’s sad to watch. There are times the same response happens if she hears anyone raising their voice.

Consider her safety, as well the others, baby is only allowed to play with her handlers. As we continue to work with Baby with patience and Love, she makes some progress. But for now, she will remain with us as a Lifer. She needs a new bed, and toys like an extra large kong. She loves her toys!

Virtually adopt Baby! That long tongue is full of kisses for you!
