ABOUT US

Advocates For Animal Rights (AFAR) is a 501c3 Companion Animal Rescue. AFAR has two locations: our first location is In the Beautiful State of Michigan, and our second location is in the Impressive State of Tennessee!

Our primary goal is to raise NO-KILL Companion Animal Sanctuary's at both sites, offering a safe haven to all homeless animals. They will have permanent, safe and loving place to live until a forever home for them is found. However, if a forever home is not readily available, the sanctuary will remain their home away from home until a forever home is found.

AFAR’s Vision & Goals

What lies ahead at  AFAR

We are setting our goals high, and in time, we are confident we will achieve them too, because the driving force that motivates us, to end animal suffering, keeps our noses to the grindstone and our eyes on the goal.

We will:

  • Develop and maintain a NO KILL Animal Sanctuary, providing refuge to abused, displaced or unwanted domestic animals. AFAR will specialize in caring for and the treatment of: the elderly, blind, deaf, disfigured, timid or plain, or animals that require medical or psychological/behavioral care.
  • Build and maintain a Disaster Response Team for caregivers and their beloved animal(s) encountering catastrophic crises.
  • Operate a long-term care facility for our Country’s Military Personnel/Veterans providing to them a place to board their beloved animal(s) in an affordable, safe, loving, and healthy atmosphere until their return home.
  • Offer support groups and counseling services to assist those who are grieving the loss of their beloved pet(s).
  • Become a community liaison for those seeking information & services not currently provided by AFAR.
  • Form strategic alliances with fellow animal rights organizations, veterinarian clinics/hospitals, animal care/support agencies, and civil rights organizations to help further AFAR’s cause.
  • Assist other animal agencies in writing reasonable laws that target irresponsible and inhumane guardians while safeguarding responsible animal guardianship and appropriate animal husbandry practices.
  • Help responsible animal guardians defeat existing laws that unjustly restrict guardians and/or unfairly limit the number of animals a guardian can maintain.
  • Assist  so-labeled ‘animal hoarders’ who have a true desire to turn their love for animals into a functional and well-thought-out non-profit organization by teaching them proper procedures on animal care, the importance of spay/neutering, and how to implement best practices to create a true sanctuary where they will be able to retain animals in a safe and healthy atmosphere.
  • Support and advocate for the development and passage of effective laws that target vandalism, harassment, arson, bombing, and other types of domestic terrorism in the name of animal rights.
  • Maintain a library of information on various animal-related subjects, offering to reporters, journalists, and the general public our collection of resources to assist them with their stories, articles, news broadcasts, manuscripts, or books.
  • Publish an online periodical containing various animal news and subject matter within our community.
